Who could dispute that animals can have a positive effect on emotional well-being? With research being conducted into the field of alternative medicine on an on-going basis, more and more people are beginning to realize the cathartic effects that animals are having on individuals well-being, especially so in those patients suffering with depression.

While some people recover from depression using medications alone, there are many others, who would prefer to use a combination of alternative therapies to try to alleviate the symptoms of depression. One of these treatments being studied is 'Pet Therapy', but what is this alternative and how could it help?

Many scientists have spent endless hours looking into the different types of therapy available for treating depression as an illness; 'Pet Therapy' has been concluded as one of these therapies. Animals have long been recognized as being a positive force in the healing process.

Dogs notably have a calming and therapeutic effect on people. They can help individuals to cope with the emotional issues related to their illness. They also offer physical contact with another living creature and help to divert a person's attention from their pressing daily problems. Owning a dog brings about a sense of responsibility. Dogs rely on their owners for feeding, walking, attention and love. What better excuse for a depressed person to get out of bed in the morning?

Dogs love almost everyone without any degree of prejudice or rejection. You do not need to speak any type of language to communicate with a four-legged friend. Give them a treat, tickle their tummy and they will love you without bounds. Dogs are aware of illness and sadness and genuinely want to provide companionship and comfort; they show an abundance of intelligence and are both intuitive and compassionate. Any dog owner will relate and agree with me when I say that it is a warm feeling when their dog can detect their sorrow and lick their tears away.

Pet Therapy can facilitate many positive changes one such example being increased socialization skills. Animals can be used as part of group therapy programs to encourage communication and increase the ability to focus. Helping to develop a person's self-esteem and reducing their loneliness and anxiety are just some potential benefits of individual-animal therapy.

The bond between humans and animals is demonstrated every day in millions of homes around the world. It is also becoming a powerful, common mode of therapy in many facilities such as hospitals, schools and residential homes.

While it is difficult to measure and quantify the benefits of dog therapy with hard scientific fact, there is no question that the magical interaction possible between animal and human is unmistakable. Tears can be dried. Scowls transform into smiles. Silence is broken and lastly but not least importantly loneliness and isolation can be ejected from a person through mere touch and cuddles. Dogs offer their owner's absolute and unconditional love and a level of boundless patience that no human could ever possibly give. The love of a dog is unlimited, what better form of alternative therapy could there be?

Depression is a mental health disorder which affects the way a person eats, sleeps, feels about oneself and the way he perceives things around him. Depression should not be considered as just a passing mood, because it is not. It is also not a personal weakness that can be wished away. It is a disease which is curable and from there you can start a new lease of life. If a depressive episode is left untreatable, it can last for months and even years. The worst thing about depression is that ignorant people don't consider it as a real disease at all and think that a person can actually snap out of it. Depression requires medical attention and treatment.

Below are 101 ways to beat Depression at home without any prescription drugs.

7) Join a Social club, take a class, meet someone for lunch or just chat with your next-door neighbor. Simple mundane talking can take care of a lot of mental unhappiness.

A. Anybody can suffer from depression. Depression knows no boundaries, has no favourites.

B. Books about depression abound...

C. Chemicals are what depression is about.

D. Depression is about not wanting to get up in the morning, about not being able to sleep at night, about not wanting to do things you previously enjoyed doing.

E. Eating patterns often change for people suffering from depression

F. Fatigue is one of the biggest complaints we hear from people talking about depression

G. Getting physical is a great help if you want to do something about depression. Raising your heart rate increases the amount of bloody pumped around your body... so your lungs will work harder... your body's level of oxygen will be increased. Oxygen-rich blood circulates around your body and of course to your brain. You will feel better!

H. Help is available for all those who need it. For more about depression check out your local directories or internet.

I. Intangible reasons - business failures, relationship difficulties, death of a loved ones - are often a trigger for depression.

J. Juggling family and work commitments can sometimes be overwhelming so if you are going to do something about depression, you will need to get support from people who know you.

K. Keeping safe is very important. If you have thoughts of self-harm or suicide, ask for help - and keep asking until you find it.

L. Learn what triggers your depression. By doing this you will be able to create strategies to cope.

M. Memory loss and Alzheimer's are thought to be related to depression.

N. Neurotransmitters in the brain help nerve cells communicate. Some of these neurotransmitters are serotonin, dopamine and norepinephrine. These substances can change and get out of balance. Understanding that will help you to learn more about depression.

O. Ownership of your depression is empowering. Figure out what makes it tick - this will help you to put strategies in place to deal with it.

P. Personify your depression. Winston Churchill coined the phrase 'Black Dog' to personify the terrible bouts of depression which plagued him throughout his life.

Q. Question your medical advisers about what you could be doing to help. Ask about medication, but also ask about exercise and nutrition. All these things are invaluable as you put together as much information as you can about how your body works and, also, about depression.

R. Rest is important. Relax. Meditate. Pick up a guitar. Go for a walk. Do something that you enjoyed before you became depressed. Now isn't the time to try something new. Go back to what you enjoyed before you became depressed.

S. Safety is of utmost importance. If you can, find someone you feel safe to talk to about depression. Alcohol and drugs become high risk factors for those suffering from depression, particularly adolescents. Find a place where it is safe to go, and people who are safe to be with.

T. Traditional treatment (medication) should be discussed with your doctor. There are also alternative treatments available - but check with your doctor first. Treating depression can be complex. No-one knows all there is to know about depression. Leave it to the experts. But look yourself at what 'triggers' your depression. If you have personified it - for example, if it is your 'black dog' - find out what feeds it and what starves it.

U. Understanding all there is to know about depression would take a lifetime. Don't look that far into the future. Take one day at a time.

V. Vitamins are good! A healthy diet is good for all sorts of things, including depression. Eat well - healthy minds go hand in hand with healthy bodies.

W. Weather can cause depression!!! SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) can be effectively treated with exposure to sunlight which increases serotonin levels.

X. Think of things that made you excited before you were depressed. Recreate some of that excitement - get the endorphins flowing.

Y. You are not alone. It is widely agreed that by 2020 depression will be the second major illness in the world. People from all ages, races, genders and socio-economic background are affected by depression. The more you understand about depression, the better placed you will be to deal with it if it happens to you, or someone you love.

Z. ZZZZ... get regular sleep, get regular exercise, eat healthy food...

You can usually tell just how popular or in-demand a job is by the salary that it offers, but this can also be true in reverse. The fact that a job is in-demand and necessary makes the people who need the jobs to be fulfilled more likely to offer a fair and healthy salary to you.

This career field held almost 300,000 people last year and this continues to grow as the demand shows no signs of slowing down. So just what is the salary for a dental assistant and how could this help you in supporting your family? First you should know that a dental assistant has a good amount of room to grow in terms of salary from the beginning of the career to the end.

The average salary is somewhere around $33,000 per year, a healthy living wage for most individuals. What this number means is that it is the average, meaning that there are some people making a considerable amount more and others making a decent amount less. This is not to be a concern to you as this is like any other field, experience means money in your pocket.

Dental assistants will generally begin their careers with a salary of around $24,000 per year and continue to grow with raises and/or promotions. The top end of the salary range for a dental assistant is generally around the $45,000 mark, again, a wage that many people would love to have.

These numbers are not rock-solid, they are dependent upon the experience that you already have or the environment you are hired into. The busier the office you are hired to support, the more you will likely be offered to start.

What makes this field so enticing to so many people is the fact that it is rapidly growing even though there is almost 300,000 people working already in the field. The outlook is that it will be one of the fastest growing fields in the country by 2018, meaning that your wage will only continue to grow as your demand grows. Getting in now and getting valuable experience over the next few years will only make you more marketable when that time comes that the demand is high.

So, if you are in a position that you could use $24,000 to $45,000 per year and have an interest in the dental field you should consider being a dental assistant. Get started on your career as a dental assistant today.

Over the years, teeth implants have become a popular option for restoring missing teeth, mainly because of their high durability, longevity and convenience. Dental implants are small inserts made from biocompatible materials, which are surgically placed in the jawbone to support prosthetic teeth. They are available in different lengths, widths and shapes, to suit the requirements of different patients. As the biocompatibility of a teeth implant allows it to osseointegrate with the jawbone, they do not come loose, slip off or cause discomfort, in the way dentures might.

Teeth implant treatment is a simple procedure, which can be usually performed after applying a local anaesthetic. However in some cases, such as when a patient is suffering from dental phobia, the dental implantologist may suggest conscious sedation or general anaesthesia to make the patient feel more comfortable.

The surgical procedure for placing teeth implants requires that the bone first be prepared with a precision drill or a hand osteotome, before the implant is fitted into it. This is followed by a period of healing, spanning a few months, during which the bone integrates with the implant. After this process is satisfactorily complete, prosthetic crowns will be attached to the implants.

Below is an outline of the surgical procedure generally followed in most cases:

1. First, an incision is made over the crest of the site, where the implant is required to be placed, to expose the underlying bone. This incision is referred to as a 'flap'.

2. A pilot hole is carefully bored into the recipient bone at the edentulous site, taking care to avoid contact with vital structures, such as the inferior alveolar nerve or the mental foramen. This is because these structures are very sensitive, and could cause extreme pain if touched.

3. The pilot hole is then widened using progressively larger drills. Usually, most dental implantologists prefer using about three to seven successive drilling steps, depending on the length and width of the teeth implant.

4. In most cases, the pilot hole will be around 1mm deeper than the implant being placed, due to the shape of the drill tip. The dental implantologist must consider this extra length, especially while drilling in the vicinity of vital structures like sensitive nerves.

5. While the hole is being drilled, precautions are usually taken to ensure that the osteoblast or bone cells are not damaged by overheating. This generally involves the use of a cooling saline or water spray to keep the bone temperature below 47 degrees Celsius (or about 117 degrees F).

6. The metal or ceramic implant is then fitted into place at a precise torque, so that the surrounding bone is not overloaded. This is because overloaded bone may die, resulting in a condition called osteonecrosis, which may lead to failure of the implant to successfully fuse with the jawbone.

7. Lastly, the incision made in the gums is stitched up around the implants. In most cases, dissolvable sutures are used. These sutures dissolve by themselves in around three to four weeks, and usually do not have to be taken out.
